Leeds United have reached an agreement with Italian club Sassuolo for the transfer of defender Tarik Muharemovic. The fee for the 23-year-old centre-back is reported to be £34.1m, or €40m according to other reports. This potential move would see Muharemovic join Leeds, though personal terms and a medical are still pending.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has been a target for several Premier League clubs, with Newcastle United, Sunderland, and Bournemouth also reportedly showing interest. Muharemovic’s performances at the 2026 World Cup and in Serie A for Sassuolo have made him a sought-after player this summer.
Juventus’s Stake in the Transfer
Juventus stands to benefit significantly from this transfer due to a clause in their previous sale of Muharemovic to Sassuolo. Reports indicate that Juventus is set to receive 50% of the transfer fee. This arrangement stems from when Muharemovic, a former product of Juventus’s youth academy, was sold to Sassuolo for €2m, with Juventus retaining a 50% sell-on clause for any future sale.
Initially, Juventus was reportedly considering re-signing Muharemovic for half of Sassuolo’s asking price. However, they ultimately did not proceed with this option, allowing Premier League clubs to make their offers. The influx of cash from the sell-on clause is expected to provide Juventus with additional funds for their transfer activities, with some speculation suggesting it could be used to pursue other targets like Jhon Lucumí.
Former Sassuolo CEO and current Juventus CEO Giovanni Carnevali, who was involved in Muharemovic’s initial move to Sassuolo, will now oversee the benefits of this clause for Juventus. In addition to the 50% share of the current transfer fee, Juventus also received €5m when Muharemovic’s move to Sassuolo was made permanent.
Muharemovic’s Career Path
Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Muharemovic began his professional career in Austrian football, making his debut with Wolfsberger in 2021. He later had a spell at Juventus, where he did not make a first-team appearance, before being sold to Sassuolo in 2025 following a successful loan period.
During the 2026 World Cup, Muharemovic made three appearances for Bosnia-Herzegovina. One notable incident occurred during their last-32 defeat against co-hosts the United States, where he was fouled by Folarin Balogun, leading to Balogun’s sending off. The suspension was later waived by Fifa after intervention from US President Donald Trump and White House officials.
Should Muharemovic finalise his move to Elland Road, he would become Daniel Farke’s second summer signing for Leeds, following attacker Harry Wilson’s free transfer from Fulham. He is expected to serve as a direct replacement for Pascal Struijk, who joined Brighton for £20m in June.

Muharemovic’s potential transfer highlights a trend of young Serie A players moving to England, drawn by the financial opportunities in the Premier League. Despite his promising talent, some reports suggest his performances at the World Cup were mixed. The agreed fee of £34.1m or €40m represents a significant investment for Leeds United.
The defender has about a season and a half of starts in Serie A under his belt, making this a substantial move for a player of his experience. The deal is particularly noteworthy for Juventus due to the 50% sell-on clause, which will provide a considerable financial boost to the club.
The transfer fee of €40m was the asking price set by Sassuolo for the player.
