Midfield Reinforcements and Transfer Targets
Manchester United continues to be active in the transfer market, with a focus on strengthening their midfield. The club has already confirmed the arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50million and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35m. Additionally, goalkeeper Karl Darlow joined on a free transfer, and Tynan Thompson was confirmed to have arrived from Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite these additions, manager Michael Carrick is reportedly seeking further midfield options. Among the players linked as potential targets are Manu Kone, Alex Scott, and Ayyoub Bouaddi. French outlet L’Equipe has reported on Manu Kone’s future, indicating his desire to join a more prominent club and his interest in playing in the Premier League. Manchester United reportedly considers him a priority target and is believed to have an advantage over Arsenal in securing the player.
Reports from Italy suggest that Manchester United could challenge Roma’s position regarding Kone. The Serie A side is reportedly seeking more than £42.5m for the midfielder. Kone, who has turned out for Roma, was part of France’s World Cup squad.
However, securing Kone may present a challenge due to Roma’s asking price, which some reports suggest could be around €60million (£51m). Aston Villa, also interested, is considered more likely to meet such a valuation. Chelsea has also reportedly made enquiries to Roma regarding Kone’s availability, with ongoing negotiations between BlueCo and Roma for other players potentially aiding their chances.
Other Potential Signings and Departures
The situation surrounding Marcus Rashford remains a key factor in Manchester United’s transfer plans. Should the club decide to sell Rashford, it could open the door for a move for Crysencio Summerville, who is still on their radar. AS Roma has reportedly submitted a third offer for Summerville, valued at €47million (£40m) plus add-ons, which is closer to West Ham’s £50m valuation. United is reportedly waiting for a final decision on Rashford’s future before formalising a move for Summerville.
In other transfer news, Bournemouth is planning to resume contract talks with Alex Scott, a player who has attracted interest from Manchester United. Previous negotiations reportedly broke down earlier in the summer. Discussions are expected to restart in September, assuming Scott is not sold, with a considerable release clause potentially being included in any new terms.
Manchester United is also among the teams reportedly interested in Leicester City defender Ben Nelson. The defender, who has 12 months remaining on his contract, is said to have requested to leave the club this summer following their relegation. Leicester is reportedly holding firm on a £10 million asking price for Nelson, who played an hour in their pre-season friendly win against Burton Albion.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund may be preparing for the potential departure of Felix Nmecha, another player linked with Manchester United. According to reports, the German club is negotiating with Genk for midfielder Kosta Karetsa. A bid has been rejected, and a meeting is scheduled, with Genk reportedly seeking at least €35million (£29.7m) and potentially up to €40m (£34m).
Pre-season Activities and Goalkeeper Situation
Manchester United commenced their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Championship side Wrexham in Helsinki, Finland. Sam Smith’s first-half goal secured the win for Wrexham, with United players receiving 45 minutes of game time. The team has several friendly matches scheduled in the coming weeks.
Goalkeeper Radek Vitek is reportedly open to leaving Old Trafford this summer, either permanently or on loan. The Czech prospect, who had a loan spell at Bristol City last season, expressed his desire to be a first-choice keeper again. Vitek played in the second half against Wrexham and stated, “I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to be, hopefully, number one, so we will see.”
