Goalkeeper joins on four-year deal

Rangers have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City on a four-year contract, pending international clearance. The transfer fee for the 26-year-old is reported to be £6m. Pandur is currently with Croatia at the World Cup.

Pandur played a significant role for Hull City last season, contributing to their promotion to the English Premier League. He kept clean sheets in both play-off semi-final matches against Millwall and also in the 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the final.

Manager Derek McInnes expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating that Pandur is a goalkeeper with excellent presence and strong character. McInnes noted that Pandur is at a good stage of his career and is expected to be a commanding figure for the club. He also mentioned looking forward to welcoming Pandur into the team upon his return from the World Cup.

Pandur himself shared his enthusiasm for joining Rangers, highlighting the club’s history and winning mentality as key reasons for his move. He expressed eagerness to experience the atmosphere at Ibrox for the first time and hopes for shared success with the team.

Pandur’s career progression

Pandur began his senior career in Croatia with his hometown club, HNK Rijeka, making his breakthrough in the 2019/20 season. During that season, he achieved 10 clean sheets in 21 appearances.

Following his time in Croatia, Pandur moved to Serie A side Hellas Verona in August 2020, where he spent two years. He then transferred to Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch top flight, where he established himself as a number one goalkeeper, making 31 appearances in his initial season.

Pandur joined Hull City in January 2024 and has since made a notable impact in English football. His performances were crucial in Hull’s successful promotion campaign.

Butland’s potential move and other transfer news

In a related development, Jack Butland is reportedly close to a £3m move to Hull City, heading in the opposite direction. Butland, who joined Rangers in 2023, has made over 150 appearances for the club. He has previously played for several English clubs, including Birmingham, Stoke, and Crystal Palace.

While Butland’s transfer is not yet official, he has posted a farewell message on Instagram, reflecting on his three years at Rangers. He expressed pride in representing the club and gratitude to the fans, stating that he gave his all both on and off the pitch. Butland also mentioned that the memories and atmosphere, particularly at Ibrox, will stay with him forever, and that he and his family will remain lifelong Rangers fans.

Other transfer news circulating includes reports that Rangers are not pursuing a deal for Dundee defender Luke Graham, despite the 22-year-old’s impressive performance last season. Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles was also of interest to Rangers, but he is no longer a target after the departure of Danny Rohl as head coach.

Additionally, Rangers will reportedly pay £3.8m for Ben Godfrey if they choose to sign the centre-half permanently next summer, following his loan from Atalanta. Rennes are believed to be close to signing 25-year-old Rangers-linked right-back Bryan Reynolds from Westerlo for £3.45m. Goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo is also leaving Rangers to join Coventry City as part of Frank Lampard’s backroom staff.
