RAF personnel participated in Anzac Day commemorations in Harrogate, England, on early Tuesday. The ceremony honored 97 Royal Australian Air Force and 23 Royal New Zealand Air Force servicemen.
At RAF Lakenheath, an F-15E Strike Eagle was painted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Operation El Dorado Canyon. This operation was a military response to the bombing of the La Belle discotheque in West Berlin.
As of midday, RAF troops reported intercepting more than 100 Iranian drones and missiles at a Middle East base during recent operations. These interceptions occurred over six weeks of conflict.
Each day, the coalition base in Iraq faced attacks from 28 drones and missiles linked to Iran.
The Ministry of Defence is currently discussing expanding the UK’s counter-drone capability amid ongoing tensions. Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth confirmed that this discussion is active.
Wing Commander David Buckingham expressed pride, stating, “It was an honour to represent Royal Air Force Leeming at the Anzac Day Ceremony.” His remarks reflect the significance of remembrance alongside operational duties.
Al Carns emphasized the importance of RAF personnel’s efforts, noting that “the base would probably be a smouldering wreck if it wasn’t for you guys.” This highlights the critical role RAF forces play in modern conflict scenarios.
