Trainspotting: The Musical is set to make its world premiere on July 15, 2026, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, marking 30 years since the release of the iconic film.

Robbie Scott will take on the role of Renton, making his West End debut in a production written by Irvine Welsh and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger. The musical promises to feature original music and lyrics by Welsh and Stephen McGuinness, alongside beloved tracks from the film.

The show will run for two hours, including a 20-minute interval, and will include characters such as Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly. Welsh has emphasized that this adaptation has a “bigger, loudly beating human heart” than either the book or the film.

In a statement, Welsh noted, “People need to think about the world we’re living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also really need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off – it’s what being human is all about – and they’ll be well served with this too.”

Performances will be held Monday to Saturday at 7:30 PM, with matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:30 PM. Tickets for the musical will go on sale on March 24, 2026, ahead of its highly anticipated launch.

Trainspotting, originally based on Welsh’s 1993 novel, was adapted into a film in 1996, which has since become a cultural touchstone. The musical aims to breathe new life into the story while resonating with contemporary audiences.

As excitement builds for this theatrical event, observers are eager to see how the musical will reinterpret the classic narrative and engage with themes relevant to today’s society. Details remain unconfirmed.
