petition — GB news

A petition advocating for legal recognition of intended parents from birth has gained significant traction, prompting a parliamentary debate in the UK. The petition, started by Adam Frisby and Jamie Corbett after welcoming their daughter via surrogacy in the US, has amassed over 110,000 signatures.

The current UK law recognizes the surrogate as the legal mother. This requires intended parents to undergo a lengthy court process to gain legal recognition. Many families have expressed frustration with this outdated system.

Three years ago, the Law Commission recommended reform to allow intended parents to be recognized from birth. However, no government action has been taken since then. “It’s exciting to see UK surrogacy laws being discussed and debated at the highest level,” said Sarah Dodds, a supporter of the petition.

In related news, survivors of the Tai Po fire are also mobilizing. They collected 247 handwritten signatures for a petition calling for a homeowners’ meeting regarding long-term resettlement. This represents over 12 percent of all households at Wang Fuk Court.

The Tai Po fire occurred on November 26, 2025, claiming 168 lives and displacing many homeowners. Jason Kong, a representative of the survivors, stated, “We’ve collected signatures from around 12 percent of all households — more than enough to call a general meeting.”

The petition was delivered to Hop On Management on April 29, 2026. The responsibility of further verifying those signatures lies with Hop On.

As discussions continue regarding both petitions, it remains unclear when any legislative changes will occur regarding surrogacy law or homeowner meetings.
