A former boss at the Countess of Chester Hospital has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. This arrest is linked to the ongoing investigation into Lucy Letby, who was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill seven others.

As of early Tuesday, Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the arrest. They stated that the individual has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Letby is currently serving a whole-life prison sentence. Her crimes occurred between June 2015 and June 2016 in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

In October 2023, Cheshire Constabulary launched an investigation into corporate manslaughter at the hospital. This probe—dubbed Operation Duet—focuses on senior leadership and decision-making processes within the institution.

In March 2025, the investigation expanded to include gross negligence manslaughter. The actions of hospital management during Letby’s tenure are under scrutiny.

Officials have not confirmed how this latest arrest will impact ongoing inquiries. However, it highlights serious concerns about accountability within healthcare settings.

Last June, three former hospital bosses were also arrested as part of this investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service is involved in reviewing evidence related to these cases.

The searches at the property linked to the recent arrest have now concluded, but no timeline has been shared regarding next steps in this complex case.
