Juha Miettinen died after a multi-car collision during the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers early Saturday.

The incident involved seven drivers. Emergency services were unable to save Miettinen after he was extracted from the vehicle.

He was 66 years old at the time of his death. Miettinen died at the medical centre after attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.

Six other drivers involved in the crash were taken to the Medical Centre and nearby hospitals for precautionary examinations.

As of midday, none of the injured drivers are reported to be in a life-threatening condition.

This tragic event took place during an event that was set to feature four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen.

Max Verstappen expressed his condolences, stating, “Shocked by what’s happened today. Motorsport is something we all love, but in times like this it is a reminder of how dangerous it can be. Sending my heartfelt condolences to Juha’s family and loved ones.”

A minute’s silence will be held in Miettinen’s honour during the grid formation for the next race.

Details remain unconfirmed as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
