ITV is reviving the classic game show Name That Tune after 28 years off the air. Alison Hammond will host the new series, marking a significant return for the beloved music quiz.
The original UK version of Name That Tune first aired in 1976 and ended its run in 1988. It was last revived on Channel 5 in 1997 and 1998.
The new series will feature a band known for working with artists like Adele and The Spice Girls. Contestants will compete based on their music knowledge, aiming to identify tunes as quickly as possible.
Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment at ITV, expressed excitement about bringing this refreshed format to UK audiences. She stated, “Name That Tune is such an iconic brand, we are excited to be bringing this refreshed global format to the UK audience.”
Hammond described hosting as a “real full-circle moment” for her. She added, “As a massive music lover, my biggest challenge as a host will be trying not to grab the mic and start singing along when one of my all-time favourite tunes comes on!”
The US version of Name That Tune is currently in its fifth season, indicating ongoing interest in the franchise. This revival aims to engage both contestants and families watching at home.
The show will air on ITV1 and ITVX, but specific premiere dates have not yet been announced. Fans are eager for more details about the contestants and gameplay format.
