Grant Greening-Steer is seeking £5 million in compensation for injuries he claims to have sustained in a motorbike accident. He asserts that he requires a mobility scooter and struggles with daily tasks like tying shoelaces. In June 2019, Greening-Steer fractured his spine and suffered a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.
As of early Tuesday, lawyers for the other driver have presented surveillance footage that allegedly shows Greening-Steer walking normally. This footage contradicts his claims of severe disabilities. The total damages claim submitted by Greening-Steer amounts to £4,924,418.
The defense argues that Greening-Steer’s claim should only be valued at £112,022 due to alleged dishonesty. They accuse him of exaggerating his symptoms to inflate the value of his claim. He has also claimed the need for a dog walker, costing £160,655 per year.
Charles Woodhouse KC, representing the defense, stated, “Liability is admitted, but the claimant has deliberately lied about and exaggerated the extent of his ongoing symptoms and their impact on him to deliberately inflate the value of his claim.” An unnamed medic added, “Conscious exaggeration is clearly depicted. I am strongly of the view that he is malingering to enhance the value of his claim.”
Greening-Steer has responded by saying, “I can walk a bit further now, maybe 150 metres. This was back then.” His claims are under scrutiny as court proceedings continue.
The case has drawn attention due to its implications for personal injury claims and potential fraud. Observers are closely watching how this situation will evolve in court.
