Eilish McColgan finished the London Marathon in 7th place despite suffering a severe foot injury during the race.
She completed the marathon with a time of 2:24:51. This time is 26 seconds slower than her personal best set last year.
McColgan’s injury occurred halfway through the race. She described it as a blister that made her foot feel like it ‘exploded’.
As of midday, she is reported to be the top British finisher in this elite women’s race.
McColgan also secured British and Scottish gold medals for her performance, highlighting her status in Scottish athletics.
Her mother, Liz McColgan, is a renowned British running star, which adds to Eilish’s legacy.
The marathon had ideal conditions, leading to several record performances. Weynay Ghebresilasie set a new Scottish record in the men’s race with a time of 2:06:59.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Sawe broke the world record with an astonishing time of 1:59:30.
This year, nearly 59,000 runners participated in the London Marathon, making it one of the largest events of its kind.
Despite her injuries, McColgan expressed disappointment about how her body held up during the race. “It was obviously pretty sore,” she said.
Still, she managed to push through and finish strong, showcasing her determination as a four-time Olympian.
The focus now shifts to how she will recover from this marathon injury and what it means for her future competitions.
