bank holiday weather forecast — GB news

The UK is set to experience a significant shift from warm weather to heavy rain and thunderstorms over the upcoming bank holiday weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach 25C in eastern England on Saturday, but will drop below 20C by Monday.

According to the Met Office, Saturday will start warm, particularly in eastern regions, where temperatures could hit 25C in parts of the East Midlands. However, this warm spell will be short-lived.

Key weather forecasts include:

  • Heavy downpours and thunderstorms are likely across the UK during the bank holiday weekend.
  • Widespread rain is expected to spread across much of England and Wales on Saturday evening.
  • Northern areas may remain largely dry while southern areas face showers.
  • By Monday, lingering clouds and scattered showers are anticipated in southern and central regions.
  • Temperatures in northern Scotland could fall to the low teens by Monday.

Grahame Madge from the Met Office stated, “On Saturday, we’ve got the prospect of some quite heavy, thundery showers coming into parts of southern England.” Dan Harris added that rain will reach southern England in the morning, spreading north later with a risk of thunderstorms.

Greg Dewhurst noted that while temperatures are starting to come down, they remain above average for this time of year. The transition from warm conditions to unsettled weather marks a notable change for the long weekend.

As always, it wouldn’t be a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK without a bit of rain. Observers expect conditions to vary significantly across different regions as the weekend progresses.
