Trainspotting: The Musical is set to make its world premiere on July 15, 2026, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, marking a significant milestone 30 years after the original film’s release.

The musical, based on the acclaimed 1996 film, features Robbie Scott in his West End debut as Renton. The show is written by Irvine Welsh and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, promising a fresh and dynamic interpretation of the beloved story.

Performances will run Monday to Saturday at 7:30 PM, with matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:30 PM. The production boasts a running time of two hours, including a 20-minute interval.

Audiences can expect a blend of iconic tracks from the film alongside original music and lyrics by Stephen McGuinness and Welsh himself. Welsh emphasized that the musical has a “bigger, loudly beating human heart” than either the book or the film, aiming to resonate deeply with viewers.

“People need to think about the world we’re living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also really need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off – it’s what being human is all about – and they’ll be well served with this too,” Welsh stated.

Characters from the film, including Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly, will also make appearances, enriching the narrative and connecting with fans of the original.

Tickets for Trainspotting: The Musical will go on sale on March 24, 2026, as excitement builds for this innovative adaptation.

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation continues to grow among theatergoers eager to experience this new chapter in the Trainspotting saga. Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional casting and production elements.
