What does the latest round of Trump Iran talks mean for the future of US-Iran relations? The recent negotiations held in Islamabad have raised critical questions about the potential for peace in a region fraught with tension. The US and Iran engaged in discussions during a temporary ceasefire, with both sides presenting their positions on a range of contentious issues.

The US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff, proposed a 15-point plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Iran. In response, Iran’s foreign ministry characterized the talks as “intensive,” indicating a serious commitment to dialogue. However, Trump himself downplayed the significance of the negotiations, stating, “Whether we make a deal or not makes no difference to me,” suggesting a belief that the US had already achieved its objectives.

At the heart of the discussions was the Iranian delegation, led by parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who expressed skepticism about the US demands. Ghalibaf remarked, “Our experience in negotiating with the Americans has always been met with failure and broken promises,” highlighting the deep mistrust that has characterized US-Iran relations since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Despite the high-level engagement, serious disagreements remain after three rounds of negotiations. Iran has insisted that any agreement must include the unfreezing of sanctioned Iranian assets, a point that could prove to be a major sticking point. Additionally, Iran warned that US demands could undermine peace efforts in Pakistan, where the talks are taking place.

The backdrop to these negotiations is the ongoing violence in the region, with Israeli strikes in Lebanon resulting in over 350 deaths, including women and children, following the ceasefire announcement. This escalation underscores the fragility of the situation and the urgent need for a diplomatic resolution.

In a related development, the US military has been involved in clearing the Strait of Hormuz of mines, a critical waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s crude oil passes. This military presence adds another layer of complexity to the negotiations, as both sides navigate the geopolitical implications of their actions.

As the talks continue, the exact terms of the US proposal and Iran’s response remain unclear. Details remain unconfirmed, and the outcome of these ongoing negotiations is uncertain. The world watches closely as the stakes rise in this pivotal moment for US-Iran relations.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially resumed its London flight operations after a six-year hiatus, with the first flight, PK-785, departing from Islamabad carrying 325 passengers. This marks a significant milestone for the airline, which aims to provide direct travel facilities to over 1.6 million Pakistanis residing in the UK.

The airline will operate a total of four weekly flights between Pakistan and London, including three from Islamabad and one from Lahore. The flight safely landed at Heathrow Airport, signaling a new chapter for PIA.

PIA’s London route has a rich history, being the airline’s first international destination, with a 71-year association with the city. The resumption of flights comes after the UK Air Safety Committee lifted a ban on Pakistani airlines in July 2025, which had been imposed in June 2020 following a tragic crash in Karachi that resulted in 97 fatalities.

The ceremony to mark the resumption was attended by senior aviation officials and featured a cake-cutting and raffle draw. Defence Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Ali emphasized the importance of this event, stating, “The resumption of flights will further strengthen ties between the two countries and their people.”

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott also welcomed the restoration of PIA’s London flights, noting that it reflects the growing relations between Pakistan and the UK. PIA has expressed its commitment to improving services and expanding its fleet under new ownership.

Looking ahead, PIA plans to extend its operations to include flights to Birmingham and additional London services, further enhancing connectivity for travelers.

As the airline embarks on this new journey, observers are keenly watching how PIA will adapt and improve its services to meet the expectations of its passengers and the broader aviation market.
