The collision occurred around 6:25 PM on the A228 Boyle Way in East Peckham, where a white DAF tipper truck collided with a pony and trap. Emergency services, including police, fire crews, and paramedics, rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, a man in his 30s, who was riding in the trap, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that a young girl, who was also in the pony and trap, was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. A woman riding in the trap remains in critical condition.

The driver of the truck, a 29-year-old man from Kent, has been arrested as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The pony involved in the incident also died at the scene.

“Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage,” the police stated in a press release.
