In a significant programming shift, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air on ITV1 and ITVX today due to the coverage of the England v Uruguay friendly game, which begins at 7pm.

Instead, Emmerdale will air a rare Sunday episode at 7pm, followed by Coronation Street at 7:30pm. This adjustment marks a notable change in the usual schedule where both shows typically air during the week.

Coronation Street is regularly broadcast on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX, while Emmerdale is scheduled for 8pm on weeknights on the same channel.

Both shows are also set to air next Easter Sunday, continuing their tradition of holiday programming.

Recently, ITV has introduced half-hour episodes for both shows as part of a ‘soap power hour’ between 8pm and 9pm, five days a week, to adapt to changing viewer habits.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, commented on the changes, stating, “In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.”

This programming adjustment reflects ITV’s ongoing efforts to balance sports events with popular soap operas, ensuring that viewers remain engaged with their favorite shows.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further changes to the schedule in the coming weeks.
