“My heart is shattered,” said Alessandra Rampolla, reflecting on the devastating loss of her colleague and friend, Mel Schilling, who died at the age of 54 after a prolonged battle with colon cancer.
Schilling, a well-known psychologist and television personality, was first diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023. Despite undergoing treatment, including chemotherapy, her health deteriorated as the cancer returned after a brief remission in January 2025, eventually metastasizing to her brain in February 2024.
Rampolla, who worked alongside Schilling for five years, emphasized the deep bond they shared, stating, “You were so much more than a colleague.” This sentiment was echoed by fellow cast member John Aiken, who described his feelings of heartbreak and devastation, saying, “I am heartbroken, devastated, and finding it hard to breathe.”
Schilling’s passing comes after she had announced earlier in 2026 that she would step back from filming to prioritize her family and health. She was surrounded by love at the time of her death, leaving behind her husband, Gareth Brisbane, and their ten-year-old daughter, Maddie.
Known for her appearances on both the Australian and British versions of Married At First Sight, Schilling was a practicing psychologist for over 20 years and held a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology along with a Graduate Diploma in Psychology.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on March 25, 2026, Rampolla expressed her sorrow, stating, “You will be deeply, deeply missed… but never forgotten, Chica.” The impact of Schilling’s work and her vibrant personality will be remembered by many.
As the community mourns, the legacy of Mel Schilling as a guiding force and role model in the field of psychology and reality television continues to resonate.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any memorial services or tributes planned in her honor.
